Within the space of a week, a top criminal cartel leader in Ecuador walked out of a supposed high-security prison (terrible public relations for the government) while another, significantly bigger fish, was dramatically captured by the army (much better PR). The net balance for the government of President Daniel Noboa is positive, but the crisis in the prison system is ongoing.
