*Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has announced that the country’s GDP expanded by 3.0% in the first quarter of 2025 year-on-year. This is down from 3.5% in the previous quarter. In quarterly terms, GDP was up 0.9% in the first quarter compared with the previous quarter. The BCN highlights that the year-on-year result for the first quarter was driven by growth in commerce (+7.0%), hotels and restaurants (+6.3%), agriculture (+6.3%), and livestock raising (+5.1%), among other sectors. Meanwhile declines were registered in fishing and aquiculture (-28.6%), mining and quarrying (-7.5%), and electricity (-5.4%), among other sectors.
