*Bolivia’s national statistics institute (INE) has published the latest consumer price index, showing monthly inflation of 3.65% in May, up from 0.9% in April. This brought the annual inflation rate in May to 18.46%, up from 15.01% in April. The steepest monthly price rises were in the categories of food & non-alcoholic drinks (+1.52%), diverse goods and services (+0.60%), furniture and domestic goods (+0.39%), and clothing & shoes (+0.37%). Bolivia’s annual inflation rate has soared over the past year, having increased nearly fivefold since June 2024 when it stood at 3.84%. A new

Evo Morales (2006-2019) is likely to further fuel inflation by causing shortages of goods, adding to systemic problems caused by shortages of fuel and US dollars.
