Bernardo Arévalo has announced various agreements to boost investment and technological development with Taiwan during his first visit to the country since taking office in January 2024. These include the creation of a mechanism to strengthen high-level bilateral dialogue, the signing of a letter of intent to promote investment through supply chains, facilitating trade and productive integration between both nations, and a letter of intent to promote cooperation regarding semiconductors. Arévalo is heading up a delegation which is in Taiwan from 4-8 June and includes his foreign minister,
Carlos Ramiro Martínez, economy minister,
Gabriela García, and presidential spokesperson
Santiago Palomo, among others. According to Guatemala’s state news agency Agencia Guatemalteca de Noticias (AGN), García and a team from the government’s trade & investment promotion organisation ProGuatemala also participated in meetings with Taiwanese businesspeople and investors, presenting Guatemala as an attractive destination for investment in key areas such as textiles, advanced manufacturing, information technology, and electronics.
