*Ecuador’s government has announced that the economy and finance minister,
Sariha Moya, met with representatives from Chinese banks to
“strengthen the bilateral finance relationship and explore new opportunities for financing”. The discussions, which took place as part of a
“parallel agenda of meetings” alongside a forum between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) in Beijing on 13 May, saw Moya meet with representatives from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), Bank of China, China Development Bank (CDB), the Export-Import Bank of China (Eximbank), and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Moya set out the priorities of President
Daniel Noboa’s government and made the case for Chinese investment in these areas, particularly renewable energies and roadbuilding, and also discussed the possibility of Chinese technical assistance on energy matters.
