*Chile’s undersecretary of international economic relations,
Claudia Sanhueza, has held a second meeting with US Trade Representative
Jamieson Greer, following an initial meeting in April. The pair met in the city of Jeju, South Korea, on the sidelines of an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) gathering of trade ministers. According to a Chilean government statement, the pair discussed issues such as the digital economy, economic security, and non-tariff barriers.
“One of our priorities is to advance in this process, through a direct and constructive dialogue, within the framework of our existing bilateral agreement,” said Sanhueza. The meeting comes after Chile submitted a formal letter of interest to the US earlier this month to initiate a technical dialogue on these issues. The US is Chile’s second largest trading partner with trade exchange reaching US$31.6bn in 2024, representing an average annual growth of 6.3% in the last six years.
