With his position growing increasingly untenable, Peru’s prime minister Gustavo Adrianzén resigned on 13 May. Adrianzén was facing no fewer than four motions of no-confidence in congress with more and more political parties demanding his head against the backdrop of a new national strike, on 14 May, over mounting violence and extortion amid widespread insecurity in Peru.
