Chile’s moderate left-wing parties closed ranks behind Carolina Tohá this week ahead of primary elections on 29 June. Two prospective candidates pulled out of the running just before the deadline for registering to compete in the primaries on 30 April, as all moderate leftist parties coalesced behind Tohá, who recently stepped down as interior minister in President Gabriel Boric’s cabinet in order to seek the presidency on the ticket of the centre-left Partido por la Democracia (PPD).
