*Venezuela’s Universidad Católica Andrés Bello has published the findings of its annual survey of household living conditions (Encovi), which found that 56.5% of respondents were living in multidimensional poverty in 2024 – down by 2.4 percentage points compared with 2023. Multidimensional poverty takes into account income, services, housing, employment, and education. The number of households living in extreme poverty in 2024 was calculated at 3.4m – a 17.1% decline from the 4m households that were in extreme poverty the previous year. Regarding food insecurity, 78.1% of respondents said they worry about not having enough food, down from 82.7% in 2023.
