*Guatemala and Peru have resolved a dispute which was brought before the World Trade Organization (WTO)’s dispute settlement body (DSB) regarding tariffs applied by Peru on certain agricultural products. Guatemala brought the case against Peru before the DSB in 2013 in relation to Peru’s imposition of an “
additional duty” on imports of products such as rice, sugar, maize, milk, and certain dairy products. According to a WTO press release dated 24 April, the Guatemalan government now acknowledges that its Peruvian counterpart has adopted the necessary measures to comply with the recommendations and rulings of the DSB in this dispute, which had been issued in 2015. The announcement that the dispute had been resolved comes as the two countries
announced the signing of a protocol agreement that would enable a free trade agreement (FTA) signed in 2011 to come into force.
