Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa has cruised into a second term after an unexpectedly decisive victory over Luisa González in the second round of presidential elections on 13 April. Noboa can now claim a strong mandate for his flagship security policies, which he has said he wants to expand by modifying the constitution. Polls had indicated that the election would go down to the wire, and Noboa’s surprise surge left González claiming to be the victim of electoral fraud.
