*Ecuador’s central bank (BCE) has announced that GDP contracted by 0.9% in year-on-year terms in the fourth quarter of 2024. In quarterly terms, GDP was up by 1.3% compared with Q3 2024. The Q4 figures bring Ecuador’s total GDP contraction in 2024 to 2.0%, following year-on-year contractions of 1.5% in Q3 and of 2.2% in Q2, and growth of 1.2% in Q1. This compares to GDP growth of 2.0% in 2023. The BCE expects the economy to recover in 2025, with estimated annual GDP growth of 2.8% driven by increased household spending, good performance of non-oil exports, and increased public and private investment.
