Francisco Cervantes, has carried out a work tour in Europe aimed at strengthening links with the private sector in Belgium and other European Union countries. During the tour, which lasted from 28 March to 1 April, Cervantes met with
Markus Beyrer and
Eleonora Catella, the director general and deputy director respectively of Business Europe, a confederation of 40 business and employers’ organisations from 35 countries in the Euro-Mediterranean area, representing more than 20m companies. Cervantes also had meetings with
Pascale Delcomminette, CEO of the Wallonia Export and Foreign Investment Agency (Awex), a public interest organisation;
Jolijn Swinnen, the deputy director of foreign direct investment for the Americas at Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), a government agency; and the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (Amcham Europe). According to the CCE, Belgium is Mexico’s seventh largest trading partner within the EU, with bilateral trade exceeding US$3bn a year, and currently its fifth largest investor. Mexico’s exports to Belgium are in the range of US$1.4bn annually, with the main exports including chemical products, minerals, cargo vehicles, vegetables, alcoholic drinks, and coffee.
