*Bolivia’s President
Luis Arce has declared a national emergency in response to heavy rains, which he said are the worst to affect the country in 40 years. Arce said that the state of emergency would enable his government to respond to the crisis with more agility by making exceptional purchases, securing external finance, and mobilising greater economic and logistical resources. All of Bolivia’s nine departments have been impacted by the rains, with Beni department declaring a state of disaster and the departments of La Paz and Santa Cruz declaring states of emergency. Arce said that 51 people have died during the rains, with a further eight people missing. He said that 209 municipalities and 378,885 families have been affected, with 818 homes destroyed.
