In brief: Mexico’s auto assembly sector attracts record FDI in 2024

*Mexico’s automobile assembly sector attracted a record US$6.93bn in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2024, according to economy ministry figures cited by national daily El Economista. This was up from US$5.09bn in 2023 and US$3.02bn in 2022. Investment flows into the automobile sector will be far more uncertain in 2025 amid ongoing uncertainty over the scope of tariffs by the government of US President Donald Trump, which will impact Mexico’s relationship with its main trading partner.
