In brief: Authorities suspend operations of Brazilian airline Voepass

*Brazil’s national civil aviation agency (Anac) has suspended the operations of Voepass, an airline which runs domestic flights in Brazil. Anac stated that the suspension will remain in effect until there are “corrections of non-conformities related to the company’s management systems as determined in regulations”. The aviation authority has been investigating Voepass since August last year, when one of the airline’s planes crashed in Vinhedo, São Paulo state, killing all 62 people on board in one of the worst plane crashes in Brazil in recent memory. According to Anac, Voepass has been unable to solve the “irregularities” that authorities have identified, such as violations of safety standards. In October last year, Anac recommended measures such as reducing its route network, increasing the time that aircraft spends on the ground for maintenance purposes, and replacing administrative personnel. After another round of checks in February this year, Anac noted a “deterioration in the efficiency of the company’s management system in relation to the activities being monitored and systemic non-compliance with the Agency’s demands”
