*Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest edition of its Focus bulletin, a weekly survey that contains the forecasts of private sector economists and analysts, which showed an annual inflation forecast of 5.65% for 2025, remaining unchanged from the figure in the previous week's bulletin. Until this week, the market experts had increased their inflation projection in every bulletin for 19 consecutive weeks. This halt in the weekly increases of inflation forecasts will come as welcome news to the government led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, whose popularity in recent months has been declining amid rising public concern over the cost of living. However, 5.65% would still be well above the upper limit of the BCB’s continuous inflation target range of 3.0% +/-1.5.
