*Argentina’s agricultural lobbies representing producers of soya (Asociación de la Cadena de la Soja Argentina, Acsoja), wheat (Asociación Argentina de Trigo, Argentrigo), corn and sorghum (Asociación Maíz y Sorgo Argentino, Maizar), and sunflower products (Asociación Argentina de Girasol, Asagir), have called on the government led by President Javier Milei to speed up the process of awarding the contract for the dredging and buoyage of the Paraguay-Paraná waterway, a major route for transporting exports. The statement issued by the four lobbies follows the 12 February decision by the Milei government to cancel the concession awarded to Belgium-based firm Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering (Deme) due to a lack of competition (Deme was the only bidder) and allegations of sabotage which the Argentine authorities are investigating.
