*Brazil’s tourism ministry has announced that the country received 1.48m international tourists in January, representing an increase of 55% compared with the same month in 2024. This was the highest number of tourists registered in January since records began in 1970. Of the total, 54% entered Brazil by land, 41% by air, and 5% by boat. Most tourists who arrived last month were from Argentina (870,318), followed by Chile (103,620). The southern state of Rio Grande do Sul saw the greatest number of tourist arrivals at 518,557, with the tourism ministry attributing this to the state’s proximity to Argentina.
