In brief: Mexico’s annual inflation picks up

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released the latest figures for the consumer price index (INPC) which show that prices rose by 0.15% in the first two weeks of February compared with the previous fortnight, bringing annual inflation to 3.74%, up from 3.59% for the month of January. In the same period of 2024, fortnightly inflation stood at -0.10%, while the annual rate was 4.45%. Core inflation, which excludes volatile items such as food and fuel, was 0.27% for the first two weeks of February 2025, compared to 0.24% in the same period last year. Within this category, at the fortnightly rate the price of merchandise rose by 0.21% while the price of services rose by 0.32%.
