*Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that US streaming platform Netflix will invest US$1bn to produce 20 films and TV series annually in Mexico over the next four years. Speaking at Sheinbaum’s daily morning press conference, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos emphasised that the investment will boost Mexico’s audiovisual industry and create jobs nationwide. Sheinbaum welcomed the investment, stating that “Mexico is so great that they decided to invest here”. She also emphasised the economic impact of the audiovisual industry, noting that it not only showcases Mexico to the world but also drives economic growth and job creation through production and tourism.
