*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released data on inflation for January, revealing a yearly rate of 84.5%, down from 117.8% in December. In monthly terms, inflation stood at 2.2% down from 2.7% reported in the previous month. The largest monthly price increases were in the categories of restaurants and hotels (+5.3%) and housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels (+4.0%). Meanwhile, the smallest price increases were seen in education (+0.5%) and transportation (+1.2%), while clothing and footwear saw a decline (-0.7%). Reacting to the news on social media platform X, Argentina’s President Javier Milei celebrated the drop, declaring the monthly rate was “the lowest inflation in the last five years”. The annual rate is the lowest since September 2022.
