Ecuador’s presidential elections will go to a second round on 13 April. This is likely to be very closely contested as Luisa González, the candidate of the main opposition Revolución Ciudadana (RC) of former president Rafael Correa (2007-2017), outperformed the predictions of local pollsters and came within a whisker of winning more votes than President Daniel Noboa in the first round on 9 February.
