*Bolivia’s productive development minister, Néstor Huanca, has announced the suspension of beef exports “until the supply is normalised and the price is reduced on the local market”. Huanca said that beef producers had justified higher domestic prices in 2024 because of limited land for pasture due to drought and wildfires, and higher prices for maize and sorghum, but that prices had remained high despite heavy rainfall across the country in December that remedied the situation. According to official figures cited by Bolivia’s state news agency ABI, Bolivia produces approximately 350,000 tonnes of beef per year, of which around 10% is exported.
