In brief: Finance minister replaced in Peru

*Peru’s President Dina Boluarte has appointed José Salardi as economy & finance minister, replacing José Arista (2024-2025). No official explanation was given for Arista’s removal. However, the television news programme ‘Cuarto Poder’ reported on 2 February that as finance minister he had pushed for planning permission to be granted for a housing project in Pucallpa (Ucayali region) that his company, JyA Promotora y Desarrolladora Inmobiliaria S.A.C (also known as Grupo Tao), had applied for in 2023, before he was appointed as finance minister. Salardi was previously the head of Peru’s investment promotion agency (Proinversión) and served as production minister in 2020 under former president Martín Vizcarra (2018-2020). Also out in the reshuffle were the ministers for women & vulnerable populations, Teresa Hernández (2024-2025), and development & social inclusion, Julio Demartini (2022-2025), who were replaced respectively by Fanny Montellanos Carbajal and Leslie Urteaga Peña.
