In brief: Ecuador’s banana exports up in 2024

*Ecuador’s association of banana exporters (Aebe) has announced that banana exports were up by 1.42% in 2024 compared with the previous year, at 364.16m crates (1 crate = 18.14kg). This equates to an additional 5.06m crates compared with 2023. Banana exports increased to the European Union (+3.18%), US (+24.85%), the Southern Cone (+12.95%), Eastern Europe (+30.05%), Asia (+4.92%) and the European Free Trade Association (comprising Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland), although these increases were partially offset by decreased exports to Russia (-11.54%) and the Middle East (-6.66%).
