In brief: Argentina posts economic growth in November

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has reported a 0.1% year-on-year increase in economic activity for November 2024, following five consecutive months of yearly decline. In seasonally adjusted monthly terms, economic activity was up by 0.9% compared with October. Significant year-on-year growth was recorded in fishing (+164.6%) and financial intermediation (+9.9%), while declines were seen in ten sectors, including construction (-14.2%) and electricity, gas, and water (-5.6%). Optimism is mounting over the prospects for a more sustained economic recovery this year, with a December 2024 survey of economic analysts by Argentina’s central bank (BCRA) projecting that a 2.6% contraction in GDP for 2024 will be followed by 4.5% growth in 2025. The World Bank is expecting a 5% expansion for the year.
