In brief: Brazil’s coffee harvest down in 2024

*The Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab), the logistics arm of Brazil’s agrarian development ministry, has released the annual coffee production figures for 2024, showing 54.2m sacks of coffee (one sack = 60kg). This marks a 1.6% decrease from 2023. Productivity figures were also down last year, registering a national average of 28.8 sacks per hectare, down 1.9% from 2023. The top coffee producing state in 2024 was the south-eastern state of Minas Gerais, registering 28.1m sacks, down 3.1% from the previous year. In a press release, Conab attributed the annual decrease in coffee production in Minas Gerais and in Brazil as a whole to adverse climate conditions, such as high temperatures and water scarcity.
