Coming up: a surge in Caribbean debt-for-climate swaps?

Caribbean countries are caught in a vice. Struggling with a heavy debt burden they must also deal with another big problem: a trail of rising climate change destruction, principally from tropical storms and hurricanes. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that the cost of building adequate climate-resilient infrastructure in the region over the next two decades will be a “staggering” US$100bn. Despite that daunting number, some interesting practical initiatives are under way.
