MEXICO: Plan México seeks to please Trump, private sector

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum presented a new economic plan, dubbed Plan México, on 13 January. The plan focuses on supporting national industry, attracting investment, and strengthening regional trade in North America while reducing imports from Asia, particularly China. The plan comes as Sheinbaum has been at pains to stress the importance of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and demonstrate to US President-elect Donald Trump that Mexico is committed to clamping down on unfair trade practices from Asia.
