Water scarcity, defined as a composite measure of baseline water stress, seasonal variability, interannual variability, ground water table decline, and drought risk, is forecast to increase in the coming years as climate change intensifies, with higher temperatures and longer periods of drought interspersed with periods of very heavy rainfall that cause flooding and other issues.
