The end of November saw two boosts for reproductive rights in Mexico, as the state congresses of Estado de México (Edomex) and Chiapas voted to decriminalise abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. They became the 18th and 19th states to pass such legislation, bringing the total number of states to ease access to abortion last year to seven. The ruling in Edomex received particular attention, partly due to its potential impact as Mexico’s most populous state.
