CHILE: Boric’s Antarctic trip eclipsed by botched Allende deal

Chile’s President Gabriel Boric, clad in dark sunglasses and bright orange expeditionary gear holds up the Chilean flag against the backdrop of the icy South Pole. It was a photo opportunity many a politician would like to have had to kick off the new year. But Boric’s moment of glory did not last. In fact it was overshadowed by a scandal involving his government’s attempted purchase of the residence of former president Salvador Allende (1970-1973) worth Ch$933m (US$915,000).
