MEXICO: Government grapples with health crisis

The government of President Claudia Sheinbaum is facing its first healthcare crisis, after the deaths of 17 children who apparently contracted infections from contaminated IV feeding bags in hospitals in the states of Estado de México (Edomex), Guanajuato, and Michoacán. The deaths have come as Sheinbaum’s government is already under scrutiny from medical professionals over cuts announced for the healthcare sector in the 2025 budget.
