CHILE: Whale deaths raise biodiversity concerns

The Chilean branch of international environmental NGO Greenpeace has accused salmon-farming companies of being responsible for the deaths of two humpback whales in October. While the impacts of salmon farms on marine biodiversity have been long-time concerns for environmentalists in Chile, Greenpeace has celebrated that this is the first time that a Chilean court has accepted a case regarding alleged infractions of rules in the criminal code regarding protected areas.
