MEXICO: Sheinbaum moves to contain budget deficit

Mexico’s Finance Minister Rogelio Ramírez de la O presented the national budget for 2025 to congress on 15 November. The first budget of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration makes some cuts to try and reduce a big deficit bequeathed by Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), but they might not be deep enough. The budget was also predicated on optimistic economic growth and currency exchange figures, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding the incoming presidency of Donald Trump in the US.
