Leslie Voltaire, the current pro-tempore president of Haiti’s nine-member transitional presidential council (TPC), has written to United Nations (UN) Secretary General António Guterres formally requesting that the Kenyan-led multinational security support mission to Haiti (MSS) be transformed into a traditional UN peacekeeping force. Voltaire’s request comes amid renewed signs of escalating gang violence – such that two US airlines recently temporarily suspended flights.
