*The municipal government of Colombia’s capital city, Bogotá, has warned that water rationing measures are failing to prevent water loss from the Chingaza water system, which includes the Chuza reservoir and from where most of the city’s water supply is drawn. Under the current water rationing system, which began in April amid a severe drought, neighbourhoods have their water supply cut off on a rotating basis for 24 hours once every nine days. A statement from the Bogotá mayor’s office said that water levels at the Chingaza system fell by a further 0.35% over the most recent nine-day cycle, with the system now at 43.36% of capacity. The municipal government has warned that the rationing measures will be tightened if water levels fall to 36%.
