*Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has sent a reform package to congress aimed at boosting women’s rights, including tackling the gender pay gap. Sheinbaum stated that the reform would introduce a constitutional guarantee that women would receive the same pay as men for the same work. According to local think tank Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad (Imco), women in Mexico earn around 14% less than men, with the gap increasing in the informal sector. The reform would also dictate gender parity in the federal and local governments, introduce laws to protect victims of domestic abuse, and improve protocols to investigate gender-motivated violence.
