*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its figures for the country’s industrial production in August, which showed a slight monthly increase of 0.1% and a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. This comes after a 1.4% monthly drop in production registered in July. The accumulated production in the 12 months until August 2024 was up 2.4% compared to the previous 12-month period. Of the 25 product categories measured, only seven showed a monthly rise in production, with the greatest increase registered in computer equipment, electronic and optical products (+4.0%). In a press release, the Ibge highlighted that extractive industries showed a notable recovery. The category saw a monthly increase of 1.1% in August, which follows a 2.2% decrease in July.
