*Bolivia’s state hydrocarbon company, Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), has announced that it has ended its natural gas exports to Argentina and will now focus on the Brazilian export market. YPFB’s president,
Armin Dorgathen, was cited in a company press release as saying that
“Brazil has a very large unsatisfied demand [for gas] and considers YPFB to be a trustworthy and reliable supplier”. At the same time, the company noted that the expansion of production facilities at Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale deposits has put the country on course to become
“a world-class producing country”. YPFB’s director of gas export contracts,
Óscar Claros, said that the company’s export contract with Argentina had originally been scheduled to end in 2026, but that the end date had been brought forward due to a drop in Argentine demand. YPFB had in any case been struggling to meet its export quota for Argentina due to
a years-long decline in Bolivian natural gas reserves.
