In brief: Agriculture drives economic activity in Mexico

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released its latest global indicator of economic activity (IGAE), showing that economic activity increased by 2.0% year-on-year in July and by 0.6% in monthly terms. The annual increase was driven by growth in the primary (agricultural) sector of 12.5%, while activities in the secondary (manufacturing) sector grew by 2.2% year-on-year and those in the tertiary (services) sector by 0.6%. In monthly terms, activities in the primary sector were up 11.6%, with increases of 0.4% in the tertiary sector and 0.2% in the secondary sector.
