*Mexico’s economy (SE) and labour (STPS) ministries have announced the successful resolution of a US labour rights complaint involving a facility run by Impro Industries Mexico in San Luis Potosí state. In July, the US had asked Mexico to review whether workers’ rights were being denied at the Chinese-owned facility, which specialises in fabricating component parts for use in the energy, medical, automotive, and agricultural sectors. The request marked the 25th time the US had formally invoked the rapid response labour mechanism (RRM) in the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Following an internal investigation, the Mexican government determined that there was not enough evidence to confirm the denial of labour rights at the facility. However, Impro agreed to carry out actions in conjunction with the STPS including publishing and disseminating a letter of commitment to neutrality in union matters and a document defining guidelines for the conduct of company personnel in relation to such matters; training personnel who have contact with unionised staff on the content of the neutrality charter and guidelines for conduct; and facilitating the STPS to train personnel on the rights of freedom of association and collective bargaining in Mexico.
