In brief: Argentina posts another trade surplus

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released new figures showing that the country registered a trade surplus of US$1.96bn in August, up from a deficit of US$974m in August 2023. The country has now obtained a trade surplus for nine consecutive months. According to the latest Indec report, Argentina’s exports in August totalled US6.79bn, up 14.9% on August 2023, while imports totalled US$4.83bn, down 29.8% year-on-year. Brazil was the main destination for Argentinian exports in August, with an export value of US$1.19bn, followed by Chile (US$577m), the US (US$542m), and China (US$520m). Brazil was also the main source of imports, accounting for US$1.13bn, followed by China (US$887m), the US (US$536m), and Paraguay (US$247m).
