*The Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab), the logistics arm of Brazil’s agrarian development ministry, has released its latest estimate for annual coffee production. With around 96% of the total coffee crop already harvested by the end of August, Conab estimates that the full harvest will yield 54.79m sacks of coffee. This would mark a 0.5% decrease compared to 2023, which Conab attributes to adverse weather conditions this year, such as intense rainfall or droughts. The total yield of arabica coffee is expected to reach 39.59m sacks, up 1.7% in annual terms. However, the country’s top producer state of arabica coffee, Minas Gerais, has suffered severe dry spells this year and is expected to produce 27.69m sacks, 3.4% less than last year. The harvest of conilon coffee is expected to yield a total of 15.2m sacks, down 6% from last year. Espírito Santo, the main conilon producer state, is projected to produce 9.97m sacks of this coffee variety, down 1.9%.
