DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Government on cost-cutting drive

Dominican President Luis Abinader unveiled plans on 16 September to save public funds through restructuring public administration, among other measures. According to a press release by the office of the presidency, most of the proposals, which are widely reported as saving some RD$25bn (US$417m) of public funds, require approval by the bicameral legislature, in which Abinader’s Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) has a clear majority.
