*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest figures on economic activity, showing the country’s GDP in the second quarter of 2024 dropped by 1.7% in both quarterly and yearly terms. This marks the third consecutive quarter in which Argentina registered a quarterly contraction and the fifth consecutive quarter to see a year-on-year contraction. In the first half of this year the economy contracted by 3.4% compared with the same period in 2023. Sectors that registered notable yearly contractions in Q2 2024 include construction (-22.2%) and manufacturing (-17.4%), while the agriculture, livestock, hunting, & forestry sector and the fishing sector saw significant year-on-year growth of 81.2% and 41.3% respectively.
