*Cabinet ministers from Costa Rica and Panama have held a meeting to deepen bilateral trade and security cooperation. The meeting between the agriculture, commerce, and security ministers from both countries took place in the border city of Paso Canoas. Among the trade matters discussed were deepening Central American economic integration and optimising freight transport within the sub-region. On the security front, ministers discussed improving cooperation against organised crime and addressing the growing challenge of illegal immigration, with more than 500,000 migrants crossing the shared border between the two countries in 2023.
