Honduran government rocked by alleged drug links

It has not been a good week for Xiomara Castro, the left-wing president of Honduras. She faced allegations that her government is mired in nepotism and that members of her family in official positions, as well as her unofficial adviser and husband, former president Manuel Zelaya (2006-2009), are linked to drug traffickers; caused uproar by rescinding an extradition treaty with the US; replaced a key minister; noted the resignations of the secretary of congress and of her ambassador to Canada; and finally rounded it off by claiming that the same “dark internal and external forces” that conspired to oust Zelaya in a coup d’état, resulting in his being flown into exile in Costa Rica in his pyjamas, are plotting to topple her government.
