In brief: Unemployment falls in Mexico

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published new figures showing that the unemployment rate of the economically active population – those aged 15 or over who are either employed or seeking employment – was 2.9% in July. This was down by 0.2 percentage points compared with July 2023, equating to a drop of 102,000 people. In seasonally adjusted monthly terms, the unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points compared with June. The underemployment rate remained unchanged in yearly terms in July but increased by 0.2 percentage points in monthly terms.
